The Perfect Gift for a Hopeless Bachelor

February 8th, 2010 — 05:59 am

We all have at least one friend who is totally helpless in the kitchen.  Actually, if you don’t have a friend like that, read on, because I have enough friends who meet that description to share at least one of mine with you.

The gift suggestion that I’m about to make for him is rather expensive.  I assure you, though, that you will that it is a very wise investment on your part.  Perhaps that nameless man is your roommate, your cousin or even your own son who you can seem to get to move out of your house, even after you paid for four years of college.

Give the present of a romantic dinner with the person of his own choice–right there in his own home.  When you get right down to it, nothing impresses an unsuspecting date more than an intimate dinner that the host has prepared himself (with your encouragementand supervision, of course.  Now, the friend I’m thinking of needs all the help he can get in this regard.  You may need to be very specific when you give him your gift and the instructions to go with it.  Remind him to light candles, choose the music for him and suggest he pick up his dirty socks.

Start with a gift of a fine gourmet cheese as the first course.  If he is capable of slicing a couple pears or apples, suggest that as well.  He can serve this course as a finger food or at the dining table as the formal beginning of the meal.

For the main course, present him with a certificate for a delicious lobster dinner or perhaps a surf and turf meal, if he is a beef fan.  Since this man needs so much help, you will want to be certain that the lobster is as fresh as possible.

End the evening (at least the part of the evening you’re helping with) with a delicious, New York style cheesecake or a turtle cheesecake, if he is a chocolate enthusiast for dessert.  Whichever cheesecake option you choose, tell him to spruce up the serving with a few fresh berries or a sprig of fresh mint.

You might also recommend a fine wine, if he consumes alcoholic beverages.  Lobster is very hearty fare, so don’t be afraid to suggest he pair it with a bold wine such as a Merlot or even a Burgundy.

Once you’ve done your part in the affair, relax until you receive the engagement announcement.  If you learn that the perfect evening didn’t work, just give up on him, and next time you can enjoy the delicious meal with your own favorite partner.

Conceptualizing Detailed Personalized Giveaways

February 8th, 2010 — 05:59 am

A well-thought plan and proper implementation of the said plan are a requirement in special occasions such as weddings. Order is imperative in occasions such as this. Chaos is absolutely a no-no. Weddings entail a lot of preparations that is the reason why it is just right to allocate enough time in the planning of the whole event with extra effort for cool groomsmen gifts.

In the planning stage, tokens are most of the time part of the whole agenda. Gifts are a gesture of appreciation to people who have graced the ceremony and who have witnessed the memorable experience of two persons who have vowed to spend the rest of their lives with each other. Aside from being a gesture of appreciation and gratitude, gifts are meant to be enjoyed. Hence in selecting what gifts to give away, it would be wise to choose those that match the guests’ choices as well as reflect the personality of the wedding couple. Personalized gifts are not hard to come by these days. So many gift providers offer customized gift items. As a result the hassle of producing personalized gift products is diminished. The wedding couple or the organizer just needs to come up with a gift design and concept, the realization of the design will be in the hands of the gift manufacturer.

Having personalized gift items for the guests somehow bears time since the gifts would not be generic ones. So, to save time and to not get delayed with the other wedding preparations, grouping the guests would be an efficient way of coming up of personalized gift items. The degree of how personalized the gifts would depend on the importance of the guests in the whole wedding ceremony. For instance, guests who are not part of the entourage can have gifts that are not as personalized as those that are to be offered to the people who are part of the entourage. The newlyweds or the organizer can employ less gift design details to gift items which are to be given to guests outside of the entourage.

Since they are greater in number, conceptualizing detailed groomsmen gifts would surely take time. As for the entourage, it is just right to spend adequate time in thinking what gifts to consider; the kind that they would truly feel special about. The members of the entourage are family and friends who are dear to the newlyweds so it would not be so hard to think of what things that they truly enjoy. For example, considering of what groomsmen gifts to give to the men who the groom has shared half of his life with, the groom should pick unique groomsmen gift that truly reflect the unique personality of his groomsmen. Giving them distinct customized gifts would not merely be rewarding on their part but as well gratifying. The simple gesture of gift giving and the thought that the gifts for him are handpicked by the couple or the groom himself would surely please the groomsmen. The same philosophy is encouraged in selecting what gifts to consider for the other members of the entourage.

Do you have a suggestion for a gift for my brother who just joined the Masonic Lodge?

February 5th, 2010 — 10:46 pm
seeme1995 asked:

I don’t want to hear your conspiracy theories or how satanic the lodge is. None of that is true.
There is a long history in my family of the men joining the Scottish Rite. My dad has my great-great-grandmother’s Masonic ring, which will go to my brother when Dad dies, but I wanted to get a little something for my brother now. I’m an Army wife so there’s not a lot of money available. I want to try to keep it less than $100. My brother is 26, if that helps. Thanks!

Thoughtful Retirement Gifts for Teachers

February 3rd, 2010 — 08:29 am

Teachers are a special part of children’s lives and help them in more ways than we can conceive of. These spectacular people show our children affection and patience on a daily basis. If you are looking for retirement gifts for teachers then you likely know one of these special individuals who will be quitting the work force in a little while.

Since it is a retirement gift you may want to stay away from items that would usually be considered work related. Things like this may include desk caddies or briefcases. While these items are very nice they might be a bit too work oriented for someone who is looking forward to retirement and no longer working.

If you are acquainted with the teacher who is retiring, well then a more personal present would be appreciated. Once you have spent a lot of time with someone then you can better know the sorts of things they would like best. A bottle of their favorite wine or a gardening set may be the solution depending on the person’s choice of leisure pursuits.

If you’re not clear on what the person would have a preference for then you can normally never go wrong with something like a personalized coffee mug or photo frame, maybe one with her students photos included. Or you might think about retirement gift ideas such as individualized luggage tags or a share in a stock. It’s always more the thought behind the gift than the actual size of the gift you offer.

Individualized crystal sculptures and sets of luggage may be nice gifts if you can find the money for them or if you can cooperate with a group to make the purchase. A day at the spa or night on the town, even tickets to a special event, can all make for wonderful retirement gifts for teachers. These are very nice and will be cherished for a long time to come.

Children love to be part of things and if they are being taught by the teacher it might be meaningful for them to feel like they have made a contribution. You may want to let your child help out to select and present the gift. This will provide them an opportunity to be involved in the special occasion and show their thanks too.

Gifts that come from the heart are always perfect. These are the ones that are loved for a long time and looked back on with affectionate recollections. Regardless of what you choose, let the teachers in your life know you recognize the value of their years of dedication and effort.

Making Scented Candles – 4 Tips for Creating Captivating Scented Masterpieces

February 3rd, 2010 — 08:29 am

Scented candles increase the ambience of any room in your home. If you’re a warm and romantic type of person, you will appreciate the aroma of scented candles. You and your guests will be treated to a sense of calm and well being. Also, the light of almost any candle enhances the elegance of a room.

The warm fragrance of a scented candle will lift your spirts, even when the candle is not lit. So when you come home tired and worn out from the day, the presence of the perfumed candles tend to unwind you and make you feel uplifted.

Scented candles are wonderful gifts for any occasion and/or season, especially when made by your own hands.

1. Pick Your {Candle Making Fragrance}

Fragrance oil is sold in most craft shops. You can also shop for it online. I would suggest that you opt for fragrance oils rather than going for cheap water or alcohol based fragrances. Since your wax mix will be oil based, use a fragrance that is also be oil based. Why? Well, as oil and water do not blend, the water from a water based perfume tends not to mix with the melted wax.

2. Pick Your Wax

The basics of {making a scented candle} are more or less the same as for ordinary wax candles. Start by choosing your desired kind of wax. These days the market offers a versatile range of wax, starting from natural waxes made from beeswax, palm or soy and on to gel or paraffin wax. You’ll want to decide on the aromatic intensity for your candles before choosing your wax. For example, in case of gel candles, gel wax with less density holds less fragrance compared to gel wax with higher density.

3. The Art of Scented Candle Making

Now that we’ve talked about waxes, let’s discuss the method for creating scented candles.

The first task is to melt your wax. I suggest using a double boiler. Meaning place the wax in a small pot & place that pot into a slightly larger container partially filled with tap water. Now heat the H2O. Use a thermometer to ensure the wax is not burnt. The temperature must be kept between 170 &180 degrees F.

After the wax is melted, insert a wick into the mold and remove your wax from it’s source of heat. Now add the fragrance oil that you have chosen. 1 ounce fragrance oil to 1 pound wax will create a fragrance of 6%. Be aware that greater amounts of fragrance will cause the candle to burn out sooner because it has a higher liquid density.

Now pour the melted wax/fragrance mixture into your mold. The only job left is to let the whole thing cool before removing your candle from it’s mold.

Congratulations, well done!

4. Experiment as You Move Along

You will gain expertise in all phases of candle making when you start experimenting. By using different fragrances and colors, you will perfect the art of candle making and thoroughly enjoy the process.

It’s a great feeling to gift your loved ones with a {scented homemade candle} knowing that they will find the fragrant essences both relaxing and invigorating.
