I live in Australia and buy lots of things from overseas using ebay etc. Generally they take 5 to 10 working days to arrive.
It depends a lot on whether you send it by air or by ship. Shipping usually takes 2-4 weeks, by air 1-2 weeks. Companies also differ so I’d inquire about delivery times with whoever you plan to send with. I’ve only ever sent things via the normal post via ship which works ok if you’re not in a hurry. I f you want it a bit quicker maybe try FedEx.
Using the royal mail/Australia post combo, in both directions, I usually allow two weeks. That’s about the longest it ever took for anything I’ve sent, and generally it’s shorter. Once, I had something arrive within five days! Unless it’s really heavy, I’ve always found the general post to be perfectly fine.
As for gift ideas, it’s always nice to receive things in your host country that you can’t get there., and miss from home: so, I dont know… jaffa cakes!? Or perhaps a framed photo of a place/people from home? Something small, because she may travel, and will probably buy a lot of stuff in Aus that she wants to bring back, and so on.
