Is it appropriate for my 2nd Grade son to give a Christmas gift to his female friend at school?

Momof3kiddos asked:

My 7 year old son is very shy, and has only been at his current school since mid year last year. His best (and pretty much only) friend is a girl and he wants to buy her a Christmas gift. I was wondering what would be an appropriate gift for her? We plan to give it to her after school and away from the other children in his class to avoid hurting anyones feelings. We dont want the gift to seem to old as they are only 2nd graders. Any suggestions????

  • Who C

haha thats cute. someone already suggested a barbie doll, that would be perfect!

Uhhh, a present would probably be a doll, but unless you are family friends, dont do it because the girl will most likely remmember it, and it might end up embarrasing, but what do i know, its your choice?!

I don’t see anything wrong with it…at all. Something she likes. Like my 7 yr old sil is obsessed with Hannah Montana. If the little girl likes Hannah Montana, get her a doll or even stationary stuff with stickers

Thats totally appropriate, it is his best friend and all. :)

You should just get her some kind of toy, or have him ask her what she wants for Christmas. You could always have him pick something out. Good luck!

  • Diego is due February 28!

when i was in the 3rd grade i gave my valentine crush a bear with hershey kisses

    so try chocolate
or maybe a pretty little rose
    something simple

  • Clueless Jessica

Yes, it’s fine. You’d give it to a boy, wouldn’t you? Just anything, dolls, books, games, crayons, movies, etc..

First off let me say aww thats sweet that he wants to buy his friend a present! :o ) I think its great that he wants to buy her something it shows that he is giving, as far as what to get the little girl I mean you could probably get her anything that girls are into! Good Luck!

My son is the same age and also in 2nd grade. I would do something personal. Like a monogrammed bag. You can order then online at Lillianvernon.com…I also would consider something like a gift basket that your son can help you put together. Get things like chapstick/lip gloss, lotion, hair accessories, etc. and put them all in a small basket for her. It’s a little grown up, but not too much! ‘

    Happy Holidays !

I always loved barbies at that age so maybe one of them?
Books are always a good gift too or a DVD that she would enjoy, heaps of kids DVDs are being released atm.

A kit for making all sorts of crafts (i.e. the ones for little children). If not, a cute stuffed animal or a colourful grade 2-level reading book would be good too.

  • Maranyelyyyy

definately something that is appropriate for friends. nothing lik chocolates or teddy’s with hearts because theyre friends. something good would be like a diary, notepad with pen somethin funny/comical would also be qood.try lookin at some commericals to see what looks qood

A snow globe may be or there is a cute piggy bank at walgreen that dressed in cute Christmas outfit, makes sound and wiggle it’s tail.

My son age 7 received a gift from his close friend Tess at school last christmas. It was an ornament with his name on it. A snowman. He was so excited to hang it on the tree this year and said remember when Tess gave me this. You could have him make a litte ornament, maybe one with a picture of him and his friend one for each of them

I think it’s ok to give your son’s friend a gift as long as the gift is age appropriate.
Maybe a Barbi doll, a cooking set, or a bord game. Something that does not say girlfriend/ boyfriend.

If you’re into online type stuff they are the perfect age for Webkinz. They’re fairly cheap and he could give her one then get one as a suprise on Christmas and they can send letters and play games together on the site. It’s very child safe and friendly and a lot of fun (not to mention free once you buy the stuffed animal).

  • Jessica Souther

I would suggest Hannah Montana stuff. If polly pocket is still around mabye one of those

  • Stormy S

I suggest you take the gift to her home and give it to her there, school is not the appropriate place to give personal gifts whether they are after, before or out of the way of other students or not. As for what to get her…find out what she is interested in. Books are always great gifts.

  • ~katie~

    some kind of stuffed animal

  • JulZ

maybe he should make her a card,to show how much he appreciates the girl, and for the actual gift you can get her a:
    barbie doll
    cute stationery(kittens are awesome!)
    paper doll book
    glitter arts and crafts kit
    stickerbook
    beading kit
    doll
    littlest pet shop
    baby alive
    dora
    a dollhouse
basiccally anything big and sparkly will do
(i knoe cuz my cousin is 7 and thats all she can think about!)

  • Haley B

    thats good for him..

    a stuffed animal
    a short story book
    a coloring book
    a bracelet he made
    an easy card game
    paint set
crayons (64 pack with the sharpener!! lol) or colored pencils
    a tee shirt

It’s fine to give her a gift!

    That’s really cute!! AWW!
    A teddy Bear?

    Barbie?

  • Heather

There was this little boy that my daughter went to Kindergarden with and he had the biggest crush on her. He (his mom) gave her a teddy bear for Christmas and a stuffed dog for Valentines day! My daughter (I) gave him a baseball glove for Christmas and for Valentines day I took them out to eat as a mini date and we got little pictures taken together in the photo booths you know the one with the strip of 4.

We were both military and have since had to move apart from each other, his mom and I were good friends but we still keep in touch and my daughter still has the stuffed animals and he uses his glove when ever he plays, he said when he gets too big for it he wants to frame it because my daughter is his first and only love AWWWW!!

  • granny5

Yes mam, I think it is extremely appropriate for your son to give a gift to his best friend at school even if that friend is a girl;maybe a nice card( either bought or made by him), maybe a stuffed animal such as a Christmas bear, you can get them at ant Wal-Mart or K-mart for maybe $10.00, or a coloring book(big ) w/ crayons,(of Christmas),or a necklace set(with necklace, bracelet, earrings)if her ears are pierced), you can that set at Dollar General for $5.00,he just wanting to show his friend she is the best friend! This is the reason for the season(God’s love shown to all)! Merry Christmas mam, and to all your children! family! He could also get a Barbie but I believe that’s too much, but this is up you .

  • austin315a15

    It depends.What does she like?

  • Stephanie M

I think is is sweet. I do believe that is is good to do it after school as not to hurt any feelings.
    Maybe a webkins.

  • Renee J

I think you should get her a build a bear. Your son can pick out the bear and clothes so it is personalized and it is something that she will always remember. Its not too expensive either. 10 bucks for the bear and a simple outfit is like 10. SO 20 dollars for something that that little girl will probably cherish forever. Priceless!

  • Sasha

I would let him choose the present himself. Tell him how much money has has to spend, and let him pick it. He will know what kind of things she’s into.

  • lost2day

My son did this this year. He bought her christmas socks that sang a tune…she loved them.He bought them at the Dollar Store.

  • sammi

that’s adorable. how about a stationary set with stickers

  • Mommy to 4 beautiful kids

That’s fine! They are only in the second grade… and he thinks of her as a friend- I think that’s totally acceptable! My daughter is in the second grade also… and last year for Valentines Day she got a teddy bear and a box of chocolates from a boy in her class! I thought it was so cute! Anyways, he can buy her a stuffed animal or a gift card to her favourite store. Ask him to ask her what she wants.
