What can I make for Christmas gifts?

gifts
ames1987 asked:

For Christmas, my best friend and I have decided to make each other Christmas gifts rather than buy them. We’re both in our late teens. I’m quite arty and can do most crafts. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Decorate the edges of a picture frame. It could be both attractive and practical. Every time they looked at a picture in your gift, they’d be reminded of the thoughtful gift you made them.

of course it depends on what you are into. One of my favorite things to make is theme purses. there is a certain liquid that you can transfer pictures from paper to fabric, and the last one I made3 I prined out a bunch of black and white pictures from the movie Rocky Horror, and one color picture for the center and it turned out really cool.

Take an old hardcover book and create a book safe for either stashing cash or even an iPod. See instructions at

If you have alot of pictures of one another, get a medium sized plain hat box(round if you can find it), glue your pictures all over it, then use Elmer’s school glue and cover the entire thing (it will dry clear). My mom made me one of these covered in my son’s pics, I absolutely love it!! This box will be good for small keepsakes for years to come. Good Luck!!

    Scrap books, or photo albums.

well, you can knit a scarf (there are classes at Michaels/ Joann’s or any fabric/craft store).

How about make an album for her….scrapbook some photos of you two..write comments…and memories…stuff like that.

Or you could make her a easy tie quilt. Where you get two types of fabrics…cut the ends into strips….then tie the strips together.

Go to any craft store, they have tons of suggestions for any level of skill.

Have fun….homemade gifts are the best kind!!!!

Do you crochet? I have always gotten very positive responses from every afghan I have ever given as a gift. With all the new yarns available, afghans no longer look like granny-crafts. A poncho would be another alternative. If you know how to do many crafts, how about making her a jewelry box from a plain craft store box and decoupaging meaningful pictures and photocopies on it to make it very personal then line the inside with satin or velvet. Maybe even install a musical movement with a favorite melody. If she has her own place and needs dishes, you could go to one of those paint your own ceramics places and design a set of hand painted dishes or if that is too expensive, you could make her a personal mug and snack plate and perhaps a tea pot. Lastly, you might want to make a jewelry set to match one of her favorite outfits or in her favorite colors. Whatever you decide to make, the gifts will be remembered long after they have worn out….your idea is lovely and thoughtful. Good luck!

You could make your friend a christmas page for their scrapbook. At the moment i’m into making jewellery and they make great gifts! You can get supplies from most craft stores these days, for a gift I usually make a necklace with a matching bracelet and earings. xx

A Christmas box stuffed full of fun things. The outside and inside of the box could be your own design in what ever material you choose to use.

    Things to put:
A photograph of you both to remind you of some thing you did together.
A small item of jewellery made by you earrings
Some of those ballistic you put into a bath that smell like heaven
A necklace made out of wine gums which she can eat
A small pin badge that says something
    Fridge Magnet
    Torch very useful
If she likes to read a beautiful book mark or book vouchers
    Something spiritual (not a ghost)
Or just a whole load of jokey things
    Shrek Ears
    A fairy wand
    False nose
There are thousand of things and as you know her better than anyone else you will know her likes and dislikes

Have fun and let your imagination have a ball.
