CREAM asked:
We are friends but the gift given was delivered to my home, with the tags still on it, the manufacturers fault. Regardless the gift was cheap. I want to tell this person, they needed the money more than I needed or wanted that gift.

I’d just thank them for the gift, and leave it at that…don’t insult them.

you do realize you are in the etiquette area?
and i am sure you realize how rude you sound
so i am sure you are just joking
cause nobody is that nasty rude crude or just plain mean

i think it’s nice that somebody thinks enough of you to spend their money buying a gift for you….so if that were me…i would say nothing…except thank you.

if you were to say something, I can assure you it would end the friendship. I know its cliche, but it really is true that its the thought that counts…or at least it should be. Deriding someone because they didn’t spend enough on your gift, is selfish, and the ultimate sign of greed . Bottom line? DON’T DO IT

Did any one ever teach you that its the thought that counts? Be gracious and thank her for the gift.

I think it would be rude to mention to your friend that it was a cheap gift. Your friend might have put a lot of thought and time sending you one and it could of been all she/he could afford. Remember its the thought that counts!

It is the thought that counts. Perhaps just mention that in the future you do not need a gift. Just that person’s presence or a dinner date is sufficient.

Did it ever occur to you that the person thinks much more of you, than you do of them? This person wanted very much to do something for you. They did what they could afford to do. Be a gracious receiver. Thank them for their thoughtfulness and say something like, ‘You are always so generous, thank you for thinking of me.’ A statement like that will make them feel loved and appreciated. It is a gift of kindness that you will give them to help their self esteem and feeling of worth, which they may be desperately in need of right now. That is what you should do. Times are hard honey, take the gift with a good spirit and be grateful.
