Is asking for clothes as gifts inherently vain?

gifts
second only to trollalalala asked:

I’ve always thought so. It seems more like trying to improve your worth in the eyes of others than trying to improve your self-worth; I can’t see how clothes provide any recreation in themselves.

Can anyone shed some new light on this…
Yes, you could say that about perfumes etc. Maybe this whole question was indicative of someone who doesn’t really understand women. All the women in my life (including my girlfriend) would be fine with clothes and I just can’t understand it. I pick up my own clothes throughout the year; through sales, charity shops and the like.

I ask for clothes for xmas b.c it’s the only time of year I get new clothing. My old clothes are worn out or I have out grown them by then..so unless you want ppl running around naked-asking for clothing is fine….if you feel greedy this xmas donate some of your old clothes to a charity.

i get new clothes for Christmas because its like my winter wardrobe do u want me to freeze in this world gosh and i like new clothes cause u get whats in style! that’s just me!

Some people love getting new clothes at Christmas because they can’t afford to splash out on clothing themselves. At the end of the day if thats your choice of gift then does it matter why you want it? If its going to be received graciously and give pleasure then its a gift well given. You may as well say the same about perfumes or other smellies so often given at Christmas.

I ask for them because that’s about all I really need (except for a new dresser).

Maybe don’t provide any recreation, but I already take care of my own recreation anyway.

However, I tend to buy other things instead of clothes for others, because maybe they won’t just want clothes. If they ask for them, I buy them, gladly.

Honestly, I think asking for clothes is by far better than asking for makeup. Makeup is not needed, but clothing is a necessity if you plan to go out in public, otherwise you risk being arrested. Asking for designer clothes and wearing nothing but designer clothes is a bit vain though.

No, you need to wear some clothes, so you may as well ask for them
